What it checks
What goes into the grade
01Severity-weighted issues
Every issue found carries a severity. High-severity problems, such as unreadable text or fields with no label, cost more points than low-severity polish.
02What the site is for
The grader works out what kind of site it is looking at, so a portfolio is not marked down for lacking a checkout and a shop is judged as a shop.
03Measured, not guessed
Contrast ratios come from the page’s real CSS and page weight from actually downloading its assets. Where something cannot be measured exactly, it is left out of the maths rather than estimated.
04Judgement on top
An AI review adds the usability problems a rule cannot see, like an unclear offer or a confusing order of information, and each one must quote the page.
Reading your results
How to read the report.
- 80–100
- Solid, polish-level work. Remaining issues are refinements rather than blockers.
- 55–79
- Needs work. Visitors can use the site, but some problems are likely costing enquiries or sales.
- 0–54
- Big opportunity. Several important issues are stopping visitors or excluding people using assistive technology.
- Issues count
- The total number of problems found. The free view shows the top three; the full list comes with access.

Website grader FAQ.
How is the website grade calculated?
Each issue found is weighted by severity and the total is turned into a score out of 100, adjusted for what the site is for. High-severity issues move the score the most.
Why did my grade change between two scans?
The page itself may have changed, a slow server may have timed out on some assets, or the AI review may have weighed a borderline issue differently. The rule-based checks give the same answer for an unchanged page.
What is a good website grade?
80 or above is solid. Most small-business sites land somewhere between 50 and 80, usually held back by contrast, missing labels or very heavy images.
Does the grader check my whole site?
No. It grades the single page you enter, usually the homepage, because that is where most first visits begin. Enter another URL to grade a different page.
Is the website grader free?
Yes, with no account. A limit of a few scans per hour per connection keeps it available for everyone.
