III — A letter

To the two of you, about to be married:

I won’t ask you to look at the camera. I’d rather stay close, quietly, and wait for what’s meant to happen: a hand reaching for another hand, the laugh that slips out before the toast, Mom straightening the veil one last time.

That’s what documentary photography means to me: trusting what happens instead of directing it. I work in natural light and combine film and digital, because each one holds light in its own way.

Years from now, you won’t remember the pose. You’ll remember how it felt to be there. That’s the roll I want to develop for you.

With love,Mariana

  3. 03

    the day

I arrive, blend into the scenery and document what happens in natural light, in Colombia or wherever you choose to get married.
